Estimated Costs
Under U.S. government regulations, any student who will hold F-1 or J-1 status in the U.S. or any student in F-1 or J-1 status transferring from one academic institution to another
must provide documentation showing financial capability for a minimum of 1 year of academic year. The below amounts reflect the total
estimated costs per year, yet
students are responsible for acquiring financial support to meet all anticipated expenses for all years of study. The required funding is per year and includes tuition, fees, estimated cost of living and health insurance.
The figure presented below is for 2020-2021 AY and is not the final estimated cost of attendance for 2021-2022.
Documentation Requirements:
- All financial documentation submitted must reflect combined support for your program's required funding and any additional funding for accompanying dependents (if applicable).
- All documents must be issued in English or include a certified English translation.
- Official bank statement or bank letter, must include
- Full name of account holder
- Account total in USD
- Date issued
- Official UVA department financial support, must include:
- Name, title and phone number of department contact
- Full of name of academic department
- Type of award (graduate teaching assistantship, graduate research assistantship, fellowship/scholarship, or other specified award)
- Duration of award (start and end dates)
- Award amount and coverage (i.e. tuition, fees, medical insurance, and/or stipend/salary per month/year)
